Deschamps: France need miracle at World Cup

France need a miracle to win the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Brazil, according to their coach Didier Deschamps.

The 1998 World champions have been drawn with Switzerland, Honduras and Ecuador in Group E at the showpiece event.

France have endured a turbulent ride since that triumphant display on home soil 16 years ago, with success at Euro 2000 and a runner-up finish at the 2006 World Cup softening the blow of recent failures.

The nation failed to make it out of the group stage at the 2010 World Cup, exiting without a win against Uruguay, Mexico and host s South Africa.

France also narrowly accounted for Ukraine (3-2 on aggregate) in a World Cup qualifying play-off to make it to Brazil, having finished second in their qualification group behind champions Spain.

Hull City v Sheffield Wednesday: Promotion windfall the prize on offer

Carlos Carvalhal claims Sheffield Wednesday are the underdogs in their Championship play-off final against Hull City, a match with promotion to the Premier League and a huge financial windfall at stake.

Billed as the richest game in world football, winning this year s second-tier showpiece at Wembley Stadium has been calculated to be worth a minimum of £170 million, rising to £290m if survival is secured for at least one season.

Wednesday bidding to return to the top flight for the first time since their relegation in 2000 finished sixth in the Championship, but that did not stop them eliminating Brighton and Hove Albion in the semi-finals, despite the Seagulls amassing 15 more points and only missing out on automatic promotion on goal difference.

Newcastle United 2 Burnley 0: Magpies cruise after Schar stunner

A spectacular strike from Fabian Schar helped Newcastle United to a 2-0 win over Burnley that further eases their Premier League relegation fears.

The Switzerland centre-back rifled home an unstoppable shot midway through the first half before Sean Longstaff scored his first league goal for the club.

Burnley had battled to a 2-1 win over Tottenham just three days ago, but they rarely troubled Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka in the second half as a run of four away league games without defeat ended rather meekly.

It took 24 minutes for a shot on target to arrive, but it was worth the wait for Newcastle fans, with Schar blasting a stunning effort in off the right-hand post from 25 yards out.

Dubravka blocked a Chris Wood effort as Burnley threatened a …

Klopp has no doubts over Liverpool hunger

Jurgen Klopp has no doubts about the hunger of his Liverpool side as they chase further success this season.

Liverpool have won the Premier League and Champions League in the past two seasons, the domestic triumph in 2019-20 bringing the club their first league title since 1990.

Klopp s men have won their opening three league games of this season ahead of Sunday s trip to Aston Villa.

And the Liverpool manager insisted he had no questions about the hunger of his team despite their success in recent campaigns.

We agreed a bit longer ago to make this the best time of our lives as long as we are together. That s what we are still doing, Klopp said.

I m not in doubt about the desire and the hunger of my boys. It s a little bit my job as well to keep…

Streller wants United respect

Basel captain Marco Streller claims Manchester United did not take his side seriously in their 3-3 Champions League draw at Old Trafford.

Host United needed a stoppage-time equaliser from Ashley Young to rescue a 3-3 draw in the first meeting between the teams on September 27, having led 2-0 at half-time.

Streller, 30, feels last season s runners-up will have learnt their lesson and know what to expect from the Swiss champions when they meet again in Basel on Wednesday.

United cannot afford to lose the Group C match if they are to progress to the last 16 of the Champions League.

At 2-0, it seemed to me they didn t take us seriously, Streller said.

But after that, I know they will not underestimate us again. They will take us seriously because n…

West Brom eyeing Vardy bid

West Bromwich Albion are readying a £5m bid for Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy, .

The 28 year old has appeared in all but three of the Foxes league games so far this season, though he has scored just one goal which came in the shock 5-3 win over Manchester United back in September.

Prior to his switch to the Walkers Stadium, Vardy scored thirty-one goals for Fleetwood Town in their Conference title winning 2011/12 campaign while he was also part of the squad that won the Championship with Leicester last season.

Pulis, who won his first league game in charge of the Baggies last weekend, is keen to add pace to his attack as he attempts to steer the Midlands club to safety.

They travel to Everton on Monday evening, and after priced at that woul…

Calderon: Mourinho could not handle Real pressure

Jose Mourinho left Real Madrid because he could not handle the pressure in the Spanish capital, says former president Ramon Calderon.

Former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has lashed out at Jose Mourinho by suggesting he could not cope in the Spanish capital.

Mourinho was in charge for three seasons at Santiago Bernabeu, where he won La Liga in 2011-12, the 2011 Copa del Rey and the Supercopa de Espana.

A UEFA Champions League victory eluded him, however, as Real crashed out in the semi-finals three seasons in a row under Mourinho, with the club winning the tournament in 2014-15 during Carlo Ancelotti s first campaign.

Mourinho s Real reign was also marred with controversy, including poking then-Barca assistant Tito Vilanova in the eye, bei…

Control Update Coming in Early 2025, Unlocks “Previously Released Content”

While Control 2 is a ways off, entering full production in 2025, the first title in the series will receive a new update. As announced at the Remedy’s Capital Markets Day, it will go live in early 2025 and unlock “previously released content.”

The content’s nature is unknown, but it could tie into the aftermath of Alan Wake 2: The Lake House. One player reported an essential character (spoilers if you haven’t played Control, so beware) suddenly going missing. Perhaps this will tie into the upcoming update, though whether there’s any significant new gameplay or even another teaser for the sequel remains to be seen.
